I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from Texas, USA.  (Unsure what an LCSW is or what mental health professional can best meet your needs?  See Demystifying the Mental Health Profession) I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Baylor University and have worked in a broad range of settings including a family counseling center, a substance abuse program, a nursing home, several public schools in Texas, and an international school here in Shanghai.

I specialize in working with children and adolescents, but also enjoy working with adults on a variety of issues including cultural adjustment/transition, family and relationship issues, grief and loss, substance abuse, anxiety, stress, depression, and mental illness.  I also have experience in leading support groups and in crisis/trauma intervention.

I am rather eclectic in my use of counseling modalities depending on the need of the client, but tend toward cognitive behavioral therapy.  (For more information on CBT, click here).  Regardless of what particular counseling style is used, I firmly believe that the most important factor in determining the progress a client makes is the relationship between the client and the therapist.  In general, I am able to work with clients from diverse backgrounds, but if for any reason, a client does not feel comfortable with me or my counseling style, I am more than happy to help him or her locate a counselor who is a better fit.
